They Cancelled Church--snow day

We just got a call from a lady from the church that today services were cancelled. They shut everything down around everytime there is snow. The weather here is a big topic. They have been talking about today's snowstorm for 5 days...

It is snowing a little heavily now.

Museum of Natural History

Today we went to the Museum of Natural history. It has lots of skelatons and fossils. Everything from Trilobytes, T-Rex, Birds, everything. They have a very very nice setup. We got there quite early but it got crowded pretty quickly.

There was a huge collection of taxidermy animals and some films to highlight certain things they want to emphasize.

The special exhibit they are having for another few weeks is about Orchids and it was extremely beautiful.

Fun day at the Air and Space musuem

Today was a great day. We went to the Air and Space museum. It is a part of the Smithstonian Institution system but not all the way in DC. It is near the Washington DC Dulles airport. We got there at 9:30, it opened at 10:00 and before we knew it, it was 12:30. The time went really fast and we saw a lot of neat stuff: The concord, the BlackBird, Space shuttle Columbia, and some of the very earliest attempts at flight, mostly military planes. Aside from all the walking, it was 100% perfect. I'd highly recommend it to anyone that comes for a visit. The museum is free but parking is $12.

They have IMAX films available and simulators but they have extra cost so we skipped them this time around.

Its been a few days

Its been about 11 days since we posted and a lot has happened. I've been working long days to get to know my new group, Lauril has been trying to find things for the kids to do and the kids have been trying not to stay bored. Because we felt wierd about putting the kids into school just in time to pull them out when we bought a house, we kept them out of school. It is now apparant that we can't wait any longer. Lauril is spending hours putting the kids into school.

Saturday we went to visit the LDS Washington DC Temple. It was very nice and they have a very nice visitor center. The traffic on the Maryland side is considerably worse than the VA side. We drove through Chevy Chase MD where the streets are very narrow and the houses very very expensive.
We also drove on Sunday afternoon to Quantico National Cemetary. There are rows and rows of white grave markers that reminded us of pictures we'd seen of Arlington and Flander's field at Normandy.
We've found the home we want to buy but we are holding off buying it until our Nampa home sells. It is a nice split entry home that is a bit older but in good condition. It is on over an acre in the woods but the majority of the back yard is cleared. It is not the one posted previously. When we toured that one it had a lot of wierd features and would not have worked well for us.
We are hoping to go to the national Air and Space museum this Saturday. Its free to get in but parking is over $12.

We made it!!!

Well, we made it. There were no issues at all in getting here. All connections went well and the kids behaved very well. There were skycaps at both airports that really made our 13 bags in and out of the airport not such a hassle. We've been spending the past day and a half trying to understand where we are, where we are going and most importantly how to get back to where our beds are.

We drove up to the house we really like. It is even more beautiful than we expected. We'll get with our realtor to get a chance to look through the house. The yard doesn't have grass but a short moss that feels like a thick green carpet. NO MOWING!! Here is a picture of the view from the front porch into the front yard.

There is a large place to play in the backyard that has been cleared of trees.
